Four trailblazers of the South African wine industry were honoured during the industry’s annual Wine Harvest Commemorative event – which took place at the historic Groot Constantia Wine Estate in Cape Town. The event celebrated the birth of South Africa’s wine industry, asked for the Blessing of the Harvest, and honoured role players who have shaped and influenced the wine industry. On Wednesday 2 February 2022, the SA wine industry officially recognised individuals in the following four categories: Carmen Stevens (1659 Visionary Leadership Award), Denise Stubbs (Recognition for Diversity and Transformation), Francois Viljoen (Recognition for Viticulture and Wine Creation), and Christine Rudman (Recognition for Wine Appreciation and Wine Advancement).
The annual Wine Harvest Commemorative Event is hosted annually at Groot Constantia Wine Estate in Cape Town, during the wine industry’s birthday month. This is when the wine industry officially recognises individuals and organisations for their exceptional contribution to the industry.
During February every year, South Africa celebrate the most significant event on its wine calendar: celebrating the wine industry’s birthday by commemorating the South African grape wine harvest.
