The Rijk’s Estate and Hotel finds itself right in the middle of the valley in Tulbagh with its surrounding mountains. This means that the conditions for a perfect Pinotage are spot-on as the colder basin protects flavour and colour. Pierre Wahl, current Winemaker of Rijks, believes that the farm grows with the winemaker. “At Rijk’s, we like to keep trying different and new things. We want to be creative.”
Their experimental intuition landed two of their wines as finalists in the Top Ten Pinotage Awards: The Private Cellar 2014 with its vintage elegant flavours. And the Reserve 2015, one of the top vintages in the last years. Pierre describes it with great structure and as a wine that’s made to last.
