In the early days of colonial life in the Cape, communication from Cape Town to the hinterland was done by cannon firing with many of the surrounding hills being called Kanonkop and similar. Signal Gun is a relatively new wine farm in Durbanville with quite a collection of cannons, and still fires it on the 1st Saturday of every month.
