A look into the February harvest with Flagstone Wines' Winemaker

This time of the year shows many prospects as the Cape Winelands' vineyards are bursting at the seams.

February is crucial for the last grape testing procedures, and choosing when to hand-pick this spectacular fruit at the perfect time. Flagstone Wines' head winemaker Gerhard Swart and his viticulture team are often found among the vines, where the most meticulous reviewing of grapes are underway. "As with every year, the harvest holds many surprises, but we're confident that 2022 will hold positive outcomes," says Swart. "With summer lingering later than usual, and winds and rains keeping us at the edges of our seats, still, our team has been scrutinising every twig, staying on par with each development".
