The historic Groot Constantia Estate hosted the annual and prestigious Wine Harvest Commemorative Event on 6 February 2020 to celebrate the first vintage on South African soil. The event was attended by wine industry leaders, icons and stalwarts from across the country. The 1659 Award for Visionary Leadership - which has been awarded since 1974 - went to Vriesenhof Vineyards winemaker Jan Boland Coetzee. The award recognises people who've made a lasting impact on the wine industry and served as its ambassadors.
